Leading in to Queens Birthday weekend

What an absolute pleasure it was to return from a South Island holiday to see members of the executive kitted out in their new Kaierau blazers, very smart indeed. Maybe it will encourage more members to bring out their old blazers. A big crowd turned up to see our Premiers tackle top of the table unbeaten Ruapehu. It would make all Old Boys proud to witness the commitment and sheer determination to foot it with this team. It was a game that could have been won but the next round is the important one.
Ruapehu started the first half with a slight wind advantage and quickly got in to their stride scoring three converted tries. At 21-0 down a lot of teams would have crumbled. But we stuck at it and got a late penalty to go in to the break 21-3. Ruapehu kicked off for the second half, the ball wasn't gathered and the loose ball was picked up and they scored wide-out. 26-3. Some positional changes were made and all of a sudden the game changed. Scoring three tries we were suddenly in contention at 26-21. Unfortunately with ten minutes to play their very good number eight scored a good solo try to take them to 31-21. With time running out, our boys scored a very good team try close to the posts to take the final score to 31-28. This performance augurs well for the second round albeit most of the games are out of town.
Previous scores for the month of May:
May 4 Beaten by Taihape at CC 17-11
May 11 Beat Ratana at CC 54-0
May 18 Beat Ngamatapouri at Ngamat 51-12
The Seconds have been battling away and have the numbers and enthusiasm and hopefully some more results are not far off. They travelled to Taihape on the weekend and it is hard for any team to win up there. Taihape is one of the top teams and we were beaten 21-7.
Previous weeks results were:
May 4 Beat Pirates 50-10
May 11 Beaten by Hunterville 27-23
May 18 Beat Marist 29-8
The big news at the club was the recent announcement of our new Patron who is Mark Carroll. Mark has been a tireless worker for the club for many, many years and is a worthy recipient of this honourable title.
